PUKEKOHE EAST.

A farewell social was held in the hall on Thursday of last Week in honour of Private C. W. Hawke, who is leaving for the front with the 28th Reinforcements. Dancing commenced at 8 p.m., the hall being well filled. A very enjoyable evening was spent. Mr J. Glenie, in a short speech wished the guest of the evening " Good Luck " and " a safe return." Private Hawke suitably responded, whereupon the whole assembly joined in singing " For He's a Jolly Good Fellow \ and " Auld Lang Syne." During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs Keane and Mr J, W. Robinson, also a recitation by Mrs Glenie, all of which were received with great applause. Mrs Keane also supplied the dance music, Messrs Charles Lauer and J. Glenie acting as M.C.'s.
