EAST TAMAKI.

[The East Tamaki Agent for the " Times " is Miss Scorgie and copies of the paper may be obtained from her at the Post Office. | EAST TAMAKI ROAD BOARD. The monthly meeting of the East Tamaki Road Board was held last Monday, the members present being Messrs C. Wallace (chairman), Waters, White, Guy, Sharp, and the clerk (Mr Alex. Bell). SCORIA PIT PANGER. A letter was received from Mr A. Hall re the dangerous state of the west end of Mrs Lushington's scoria pit. Mr Hall stated that acting under instructions from Mrs Lushington he had allowed a moderate amount of carting to be done but on account of danger he could not allow any more material to be taken 'from that end of the pit. A latter was also received from the Inspector of Mines and Stone Quarries stating that he had inspected the pit at Lushington's Mountain and as he had condemned the western end no more scoria was to be taken out until the top had been properly stripped and made safe for workmen. After much discussion on the question of obtaining scoria Mr Sharpe proposed and Mr White seconded that the chairman, Messrs Waters and Guy should wait on the Manukau County Council at their next meeting in reference to making arrangements for a permanent supply of scoria. STRAYING CATTLH. A letter was received from the Papakura Road Board giving power to the East Tamaki Board to impound any cattle found straying on the boundary road between the Board's respective districts. MISCELLANEOUS. The Public Works Department wrote relative to subsidies enquiring if any other works were in progress for which the Board intended to apply for subsidies. Mr H. Andrews wrote offering the Board £1 per year for a small portion of the reserve for grazing and his offer was accepted. A letter was received from Messrs Burnside Bros, offering to take over Mr F. Findlay's carting contract after the end of June and it was resolved that Messrs Burnside Bros, should be asked to finish the balance of the present work allotted of some 60 loads, tenders to then be called for the regular work of carting for the Board.

Mr G. Rhodes wrote offering to spawl metal for the Board and the clerk was directed to reply that no spawls were required at present. Mr Fraser attended and drew the attention of the Board to the bad state of the road into his property. In asking that the water should be drained off the road, he stated that about three chains of drainage and two culverts put in would greatly improve the road.—lt was decided that the Board should inspect the road at the conclusion of the meeting. Mr Waters reported that some small alteration to the water-course on Rutledge's Hill was required and that the contractor had offered to do the same for £1 10s. —It was decided to have the work done.

Mr Green's application for spawls to repair his culvert was granted. It was decided to give six loads of scoria to the residents of Wintre Estate for their footpaths provided the residents spread it themselves. The chairman reported that Mr T. Ellison had offered to pay the cost of cartage of metal for the repairs on Spring Hill and the offer was accepted. RATING. On the proposition of Mr Sharpe, seconded by Mr J. White, it was resolved that a rate of £d in the £ should be struck for the current year, such rate to embody the Hall rate. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £62 Is 6d were passed for payment.
