PAPAKURA. Private cabled advice has been received by Mrs Watson that her husPte A. Watson, who left for the Front about 18 months ago has been seriously wounded. Pte Watson was well-known throughout the town and district, having for novas time been in business in the township as a boot and shoe maker. A largely attended meeting of ladies was held in the Parish Hall on Friday afternoon last. Ihe gathering was presided over by the Vicar, the Rev W. C. Wood, and resulted in the formation of a Society to be known as the "Christ Church Daffodil and Spring Bloom Show Association," the object being to promote an interest in the cultivation of Narcissus and other spring blooms and to assist the General Expenses Fund of Christ Church, Papakura Officers elected were: - President, the Vicar (Rev. W. C. Wood) ; vice-presidents, the Warden*, Messrs P. M. Holt and D. W. Jones; secretary, Mrs H. Walters ; assistant secretary, Miss Hibbard; treasurer, Mr D. W. Jones; committee, Mesdames Wood, A. J. Willis, Widdowson, Wilson, Slack, Paul, Shanaghan and Miss G. Cave. Members' subscription was fixed at 2s per year and the Show is to be held in September of each year. There was a good attendance of members at the meeting of the Literary and Debating Society held on Thursday evening last, Mr D. W. Jones presiding. The subject for the night was an historical review of the Home Rule Question, and an interesting paper on that subject was read by Mr W. Murray and showed that the writer had taken much trouble to arrive at an intelligent survey of the matteT under review. An interesting discussion followed which served to confirm the saying "many men many minds." The essayist was thanked for his paper and for the able way in which he had dealt with a subject bristling with difficulties.

One of the largest gatherings in connection with a patriotic "Send off" was held in the Picture Hall last Friday evening in honour of Sergt. Tattonand Privates Carpenter, Rhind, and Keane, who were on final leave. Rev W. C. Wood (vicar) was the chairman. A well* arranged programme waspresented and among those who contributed vocal and instrumental music were Miss Bartlett (Auckland) songs, Messrs T. J. Corin (recitation , T Seaton (songs), and Master Tupp (flutesolo) During the interval the guests of the evening were presented with an "Ord< r" which enabled them to get what they each most required Encouraging words were spoken to "the boys" by the Chairman and Mr D. W. Jones who wished them good luck and a safe return. Supper was provided aud the floors were cleared for dancing, a large company enjoying the light fantastic step to the strain of enlivening music until early morning. Mr W. J. Rowe acted as MO ,Mr P. Builtn proving himself an able assistant. Mr C. C. Tuelly was honorary secretary and the function was regarded as the bett that had been held in Papakura for a long time.

Many friends of Mr Harold Cobbald will be glad to learn that he i<* making a decided improvement towards recovery.

The induction of the Rev F. H. Hales, formerly of Hamilton, as Pastor of the Papakura Presbyterian Church will take place to morrow (Wednesday) afternoon, when the Rev C. Porter, aw Moderator, and the Have W. Shaw (Mt Eden), and McDonald (Epsom) will take part.
