Manurewa Victoria League.
[To the Editor] Sir,—Will you through the medium of your paper correct a repoit in circulation to the effect that I was a candidate for the office of President of the Manurewa branch of the Victoria League. The annual meeting of the League took place on Thursday, June 7th, for the purpose of receiving efforts of the past year and electing officers for the present year. There was but one candidate for the presidency, viz, the lady elected, and to her I gave my vote and support. Therefore there was no contest in any w.iy. Had the nominations been lead out as they should have been— as everyone expected—and as the chairman wished to do, there would be no need for this correction. Why were the nominations smothered ? I feel sure that those who voted were not ashamed of their choice and there was no one to offend. Why will people elect to ride rough-shod over all rules and regulations ? I say nothing of untruthful reports. I believe one must allow a lot of latitude even in the most insignificent election campaigns. I have neither time nor inclination to personally correct and explain so take this means of informing the public of Manurewa that they have been misinformed Thanking you in anticipation. —lam, etc., INEZ RANGER BAILEY. Manurewa. 12th June, 1917.
