EAST TAMAKI.
At the Waikato Winter Show at Hamilton this week third prize, out of 36 entries, for case of cheese (for exhibitors who have never won a prize) was secured by the East Tamaki Co-op. Cheese Company. Several of the local " boys " will be up on final leave in the course of a few days and arrangements are now in hand to give them a suitable farewell. Particulars will be advertised later. The " Hard-up" social held on. Friday evening last under the auspices of the local branch of the Women's Patriotic League proved a great success, the hall being filled to overflowing. The ladies are to be congratulated on the able and efficient manner in which the arrangements were carried out. Almost every style of " hard up " costume was in evidence. Music was supplied by Messrs J. White, Tidmarsh, and Mr E. Blake. Perhaps the most amusing part of the evening was the unique supper, which consisted of " hard " biscuits, cheese and tea, the eatables being handed round in a biscuit tin. The matter of judging for prizes was not easy as so many of the costumes were original. Mrs McArdle secured the ladies' trophy and Mr Clayton the men's prize. After deducting expenses the sum of £9 was handed over for the local patriotic work
