PUNI.

SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT The concert given by the Puni school children last Thursday evening, in the Puni Hall, was a great success and much credit thereon is reflected on Miss Chalmers, the schoolmistress, who with the assistance' of Miss Zinzan, as pianist, trained the children in the various items, including the fancy dancing, which was much appreciated. The proceedings were opened by the singing of the British and Allies' Anthems by the children. The following programme was then carried out: Song, "Somewhere a voice is calling," by Master Jim Hooper (encored) ; recitation, "Mother's Errand Girl," by Miss Winnie Nicholls; "Spanish Cachuca," by little girls; recitation, "What happens when we wind the wool," by Misfe Sylvie Parkinson; song, by Miss Hemsworth (encored) ; song, "Playing on the old banjo," by school children; Highland Fling, by Miss I. Preston, S. Parkinson, and M. Donald; recitation, "Flo' letter," by Miss Joan Hastings; song, "Trentham," by Master Jim Hooper (encored); Irish jig, by the Senior girls; recitation, Master Ewen Prfston ; action song, "Three old maids of Lee," Misses i. and J. Gillies and Thelina Parkinson ; and song "Good night," by school children. The proceeds, which amounted to over £lO, were donated to the Hall Fund. During the evening Mr J. Donald presented Miss Chalmers, on behalf of the children, with a silver cake dish, and referred to the interest she takes in her pupils in school and out of it and also to the esteem in which she is held amongst parents and pupils. Through the generosity of some of he Puni and Tuke Tuke ladies homemade sweets were provided and sold by the school girls in aid of the Red Cross Society, the sum of £2 being realised. After supper, to which the children did ample justice, the hall was cleared for dancing, which was indulged in till the small hours of the morning. Music was supplied by Mr Joe Roberts and Mr Joe Wright.
