EAST TAMAKI ROAD BOARD
The monthly meeting of the East Tamaki Road Board was held in the Public Hall yesterday (Monday), the members present being Messrs C. Wallace (chairman), J. White, F. Waters, A. J. Guy and Sharpe with the Clerk (Mr Alex Bell). The Clerk reported that up to date £64 15s had been subscribed towards the Y.M.C A, War Appeal Fund and that another list had still to come in. A letter was received from the Y.M.C.A. Executive thanking the Board for their assistance in collecting subscriptions.
A letter was received from Mr Frank Findlay stating that owing to his enlisting he would be unable to continue the work of metal carting after the end of June.
Mr A. Harris (the late chairman) wrote stating that he had promised several loads of metal in Cryer and Mills road and hoped the Board would carry out the same.—lt was agreed to comply with Mr Harris' promise. Estimates were received from Mr H, Munro Wilson, consulting engineer, as to the building of Murphvs bridge on Flat Bush School road.—After considering the cost of construction, Mr F. Waters proposed, Mr Sharp seconded, and it was resolved that the Board should undertake the work. The Clerk informed the Board that the metal dray? were"'still working on County roads. Mr Sharpe reported that the White's Hill road was in a bad state and that it would be necessary to do something at once. It was decided that Monday next should be the date for the annual inspection of the roads in the East Tamaki district, n.embers to meet at 9 o'clock at the East Taumki Hall.
Mr Wallace reported that Mr H. Androw had offered £ 1 per year for a one acre section on the domain and ttiat he would undertake to keep down furze and noxious weeds.— The offer was accepted.
It was resolved that the Board should have the ditch deepened near Mr Arthur Gillard, jnr's property. Mr W. Baverstock asked permission to graze about four dry cows on the roads for three months as no other cows were licensed in his por tion of the district —lt was agreed that permission should bo granted the applicant to graze four cows at 10s per cow from June Ist until the end of September. The following accounts were passed for payment : G. T. Sutcliffo, £'2 2s 6.1; Alex. Beli, £55 l()s; Kutledge £1 18s; Burnside Bros £6O ss; T. R. Dodson, 15s; F. Findiay, £6 lis. Several members of the Board reported that little had been done to« *ards cutting furze on the roads. A list was given to the Clerk, who was instructed to inform the offenders that legal proceedings would be taken if the Board's orders were not complied with.
