AUCKLAND WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.
The monthly meeting of the Pukekohe Branch of the Women's Patriotic League was held on Wednesday, May 9th, in the Borough Council room. Present: Miss Webster (in the chair), Mesdames Stuart, Webb, Baxter (secretary), Misses Graham and Usher.
Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Mcßae and Motion. A letter of thanks and acknowledgement was read from Miss Spedding (secretary A.W.P. League) for one box of books and large parcel of knitted comforts.
The Treasurer reported that Miss Taylor had handed over to the League the sum of £4O, being proceeds of children's competitions organised by her, the same to be paid to the Belgian Children's fund. The Secretary was instructed to write Miss Taylor a special letter of thanks for her splendid donation to so deserving a eause. The Treasurer further reported on the result of show and afternoon on Bowling Green for Y.M.C.A., a full report of which appeared in last Friday's issue of this paper. Accounts to the amount of £ll were passed for payment. The following were elected members of the League, viz., Mesdames Tomlin, Fitness, Misses Barter, Riddell and Pollock.
The President reported that the Dominions gifts for this month totaled 259 and she reported that acknowledgements for parcels sent had been received by Mesdames J. B. Brown, junr., McCullam, T. Browuleo, H. G. K. Mason, F. Pellow, W. H. Fawsett, Misses \V. E. Webster, Dazely and J. Haliday. Miss Usher, convenor of the Sewing Committee, reported having sent to Auckland 100 sanitary shirts (be ing 50 for April and 30 for May month) also oO hussifs. The convenor stated the making of these things ontailod a considerable amount of work to the few who helpod and sho would bo very pleased to receivo names of unyouo willing to assist with the sowing. Mrs Stuart, convenor of the Literature Committee, reported having forwarded to tho Auckland Town Hall tho monthly box of books. The convenor further stated the books sent this month were a splendid lot, in
fact, a credit to any library and she wished to thank all the donors who had so kindly sent the books, etc. Mrs Webb, convenor of the Entertainment Committee, reported that Miss Townson intended holding a concert in the Premier Hall on May 22nd, the proceeds from the same to be devoted to the general fund of the League and that tickets for the same were procurable from the Misses Webster and Dell. The eonvenor hoped that members would endeavour to sell as many tickets as possible.
Mrs Baxter, convenor of the Knitting Committee, reported having sent the following knitted comforts to Auckland, viz., caps 41, scarves 12, sox 21 pair, and mittens 5 pair. She applied for £7 7s for the purchase of wool for next month's working which was granted. The following donations were received, viz., Mrs Goldsworthy 2 caps, Miss Bell Stuart 1 cap, Miss B. Smith 1 scarf, Mrs Hodge (Papatoetoe) 1 pair box; workers of Balaclavas, Mesdames Hooey and McKinney 6 each. Mrs Crum 5, Mrs Thornell 3, Mesdames Keith, Kimber, Brownlee, Maxwell, and Baxter 2 each, Mesdames Perkins, Smith (Clevedon), Misses O'Connor, A.. Hogan, Virgie, Kimber, Barbar, B. Maxwell 1 each. Sox: Mesdames T. W. Woods and W. J. A. Moore 3 pair, Mrs Meikle 2 pair, Messrs J. B. Brown, Barter, Perkins, Kimber, Grigor, Mcßae, Boase, Fox (Kama Rama), Robertson, Cowper, and Miss Galloway one pair. Scarves: Mesdames Usher, G. Brown, R. J. Stevenson, Misses Ivy Brown, Katie Stuart, Vergie Kimber, Minnie Moore, Barbar, Wilson, O'Connor, Goldsworthy, Edie Perkins, one each. Mittens : Mrs Cowperwaite (Mt. Eden) 5 pair.
