AKA AKA DRAINAGE BOARD
At the meeting of the Drainage Board last week an application was made by Mr Alfred Kidd and six teen others for a fljodgate to be erected in the vicinity of the cheesefactory, the land owners agreeing to contribute £l5O towards its cost. It was resolved that the Board would undertake the work and if the cost exceeded the amount subscribed pay for it out of the rates.
Mr Massey reported that landowners concerned would contribute £7O towards the widening of the Eastern drain by four foot, in order to enable it to carry off tho storm water, It appears that there is an unexpended balance of a previous grant for cleaning out tha drain, which the Government are to he asked to allow to go towards tho widening. Should this request bo acceded to considerable improvements can be effected aud it is hoped that tho repeated lloodings of recent seasons may become a tiling of tho past. A petition to the Govornruont praying for an omjuiry into tho effect of tho works of thoWaikato River Board upon the drainage of the Aka Aka Plains having bten promoted by tho Board, it was resolved that it be presented to tho Acting-Minister for Lands by the Chairman (Mr George Hull) and Mr 1 H. E. R. L. Wily.
