MANGERE.
MANGERE ROAD BOARD. The first meeting of the Mangere Road Board since the recent election was held last Monday evening in the Public Hall, Mangere, the members present being, Messrs M. B. Kirkbride, C. E. Goosman, S. W. House, W. W. Massey and James Montgomerie, with the clerk (Mr E, Ashcroft). ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The clerk temporarily took the chair and called for nominations for the position of chairman for the en suing year. Mr Montgomerie moved and Mr House seconded that Mr Kirkbride be re-elected chairman. The motion having been unanimously carried Mr Kirkbride briefly thanked the members. THE RANGER. It was resolved to grant the ranger (Mr D. Ford) an increase of ten percent on his present salary of £4O per annum.
It was further resolved that the ranger should be given strict instructions to impound all cattle found loitering on the roads, it being reported that persons were allowing unlicensed cattle to loiter on the roads for a couple of hours after milking them before placing them in paddocks. THE FOUND. '' It was left with the clerk to see that a proper notice board was erected at the Pound in accordance with law. NOXIOUS WEEDS. The clerk was instructed to see that occupiers of closed lands cleared the same of noxious weeds. A NEW ROAD. An application was received from Messrs Harrison and Grierson, Surveyors, in reference to the dedica : tion of a proposed road through Mr Edwin Harding's property and the Board was asked to grant some concession in the matter of forming the portion of the road adjoining the railway line. The portion in question will be used for bridge approach purposes when the proposed overhead bridge is erected to link up with his Otahuhu property and the applicants maintain that if the road was formed and metalled right up to the railway line, the portion in •question would be wasted when the approaches wera constructed. It was resolved to agree to the suggestion made—dedication to be accepted to the point where the proposed approaches would commence, provided the road was formed and metalled in accordance with the Board's requirements. ESTIMATES. The clerk was instructed to prepare for the next meeting the necessary estimates for the striking of the rates for 1917-1918. RE-VALUATION. It was decided to request the Valuation Department to make a revaluation of the district.ROAD INSPECTION. It was resolved to hold the annual inspection of the roads to-morrow (Saturday), when several complaints would be investigated. WATER BUPTLY. It was resolved that the postponed meeting of ratepayers interested in the proposed water supply scheme at the bridge end of the district should be held in the Bridge school on Thursday, May 31st, at 7.30 p.m. and the clerk was instructed to send out circulars giving notice of same. SOCIAL GATHERINGS. It was decided in view of the low state of funds in the hall account to hold a series of euchre parties, the proceeds to be devoted to the hall funds. FINANCE* Accounts amounting to £37 4s Gd were passed for payment.
