For the pnrpose of raising funds on behalf of the Ladies' Croquet Club it has been decided to hold a series of euchre afternoons in tho Masonic Hall, Otahuhu, on every second Wednesday in the month. On Wednesday next the first euchre party will take place at 2 p.m. One of the series of picture entertainments kindly given by Mr Norman Sutherland, the local picture proprietor, in aid of the Otahuhu Patriotic Committee's funds, will be held in the Public Hall on Wednesday evening next, May 16th, when a first-class programme will be screened.
A most enjoyable afternoon tea and euchre gathering was held at the residence of Mrs J Mclndoe, Fairburn road, on Wednesday in connection with the Ladies' Croquet Club. Stalls of home made cakes, jams, and needlework were in evidence and in spite of the inclemency of the weather a good number were present and the sum of £lO was added to the club's funds. Mrs Wood was successful in winning the first prize in the euchre tournament and Mrs J Gillies second prize.
Several of the business people I of Otahuhu have complained that children loitering about the business premises have become a source of great nuisancs. Loitering seems to be a general practice with school children going and coming from school and the many little tricks they do cause much annoyance. One thing complained of is that they will enter a shop, ring the counter bell and then do the disappearing trick. "Writing on the walls of the shops is also a favourite passtime with these juvenile offenders. Something will have to be done to remedy this nuisance and parents should see that this matter receives their attention as otherwise consequences will follow. We understand that Capt. Arnold, of the local Salvation Army Corps, has received a transfer to Ouehunga. Local residents very much regret his departure as he was exceedingly popular in the district and on the last occasion of his notice of transfer in January a largely signed petition was forwarded to headquarters asking that he should be allowed to stay for a further term, ths same being granted. Owing to the state ot efficiency to which he has brought the Otahuhu Corps, headquarters has deemed it advisable ro place him in charge of a larger sphere There is a movement on foot to entertain Capt, Arnold and his wife at a'farewell evening on Tuesday next, May 15th. Lassies will take charge of Otahuhu Corps in the meantime pending the arrival of Capt. Matthews and on assistant Lieutenant who have been appointed. A most enjoyable concert took place on Wednesday evening in the Methodist Church, the object being to swell the Trust Funds. There was a large attendance of members and friends and some real good items were contributed, performers coming from Papakura, Manurewa and Auckland. A flute solo by Master George Tupp was very creditably rendered and evoked an encore. The Rev W. G. Slade, M.A..rendered a very pleasing violin solo. Vocal solos were also given by Miss Ivy Woods, Mr Corin, of Manurewa, and Mr Seaton, Papakura. An important business meeting in connection with the Otahuhu Football Club (under Northern Union Kales) will be hold in tho Hotel room on Monday ovening next at 8 o'clock, As the ranks have been very much depleted through "tho boys" going to front thero will be many important matters to discuss, mainly th<i entering of the various teams for competition,
