MERCER.
maoki wedding sequel.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT. Following on the " royal " wedding festivities at Mercer on Monday some of the Maoris gave the police trouble in the evening by celebrating the occasion too freely with the " flowing bowl." Constable Taylor, of Tuakau, essayed to arrest one of the natives for being drunk and disorderly whereupon another Maori who was no less a personage than a brother both of "King " Rata and of the bridegroom of the day, dared the policeman to interfere with a mem* ber of the " royal " bodyguard and began to struggle with the representative of the law. Undismayed, however, by the threatening a'titude of other Maoris who assembled and undeteired by the knowledge that he was dealing with royalty Constable Taylor grappled with both of the men and conveyed them to the police station. The following morning at a J.P.'s Court the Maori for being drunk was fined 5s and Rata's brother had to pay 20s for assaulting the constable.
