OCCULT GEMS.
Despite the advances of civilisation and the high standard of twen-tieth-century education, it is surprising what a number of people still place their faith in the influences of certain stones, dates, and mascots, and hold Arm to old superstitions whose origin is lost in bygone ages. In these days nearly everyone is in possession of "lucky" charm of some kind, and place implicit confidence in the good effects produced by wearing their birthday stone or one of the many mascots supposed to guard against ill-fortune of all kinds. The occultists tell us that every gem and metal has an intimate connection with one of the planets that control the solar system of the seasons of the year, and should be worn by persons born under the influence of that particular planet. Many people, however, wear the wrong stone as their "lucky" one, simply because they choose it according to the calendar month, and not the Zodiacal month. Here is the correct list, showing the sign and stone appropriate for persons born on or within certain dates throughout the year: Stone, Garnet; Zodiacal sign, Aquarius; dates, January 21 to February 18; Amethyst, Pisces, February l!) to March 2"; Bloodstone, Aries, March 21 to April 20; Sapphire, Taurus, April 21 to May 21; Emerald, Gemini, May 22 to June 21; Aga'e, Cancer, June 22 to July 23; Ruby, Leo, July 24 lo August 23; Sardonyx, Virgo, August 21 to Sep teniber 23; Chrysolite, Libra, Sep teuiber 21 to October 23; Opal, Scorpio, October .24 to November 22; Topaz, Sagittarius, November 23 to December 22; Turquoise, Capricornus, December 23 to January 20.
