Mr W. H. Carter, of Mercer, purchased three valuable pedigree heifors from high producing cows at Messrs Moreland and Sons recent dispersal sale of pedigree Jerseys, viz : " Brighton's Dark Lady 3050 by Brighton Twyhsh (imp.) winner of nine champion prizes at various shows, dam Lady Emma, which produced 4371bs butter-fat uhder Government semi-official conditions. " Beachland's Bonny Maid " 5820, also by Brighton Twylish (imp), dam Golden Swan's MaiJ, with a record of 543,131bs butter-fat semi-official test, and •' Beachland's Godetia " 5823 by Beachland's Combination, grand sire Golden Swan (imp), dam Nemesia, which has made a record of 5081b butterfat, the grand-dam of this heifer Flanderine's Gift has a semi-official record of 544.75 butter-fat, 117751bs milk also winner of the N.Z., J.C.B.A's. silver medal for the cow producing the greatest ampunt of butter-fat above the amount necessary to qualify for a C.O R. 1916. Mr Carter also bought from the same stud the richly l> re( l " Beachland's Count " by Golden Swan (imp), dam Majesty's Eileen, winner of five champions and two first prizes in class for cows holding semi-official record, her semi-official record being 351,821bs butter-fat. Starting her test at 2 years 2 months of age Majesty's Eileen was by Majesty's Fox (imp), who has thirteen daughters that passed the Government test. Golden Swan is considered to be one of the greatest Jersey sires in New Zealand at the prosent time. Seven of his daughters tested last year averaged 50(ilbs butter-fat at an average age of three years and seven months at commencement of test.

Mr Carter hopes by breeding from the above strains to procure some liigh-class stock fit for the show ring and also aims at making butter-fat records.
