Bell did not anticipate insuriiK.iuilabb' difficulties, and suggested tlia'fihe council's foreman should visit the district and submit an estimate nt the cosi of putting the scheme on a working basis. Replying to the chairman, Cr. Bell siffd there was always a running stream at the spot referred to. Mr. Blake the manager of the local dairy factory, had first brought the matter mrwai-d. as the factory used a good d.al of water, which was not altogether satisfactory. The clerk i'Mr. B. in mentioned that probably only al>out a mile of main pipes would 1»- necessary. On the motion of Cr. Bell, seconded l>y the chairman', it was decided to obtain an estimate from the foreman of the probable cost of the installai ion. Manurewn Road Board Merging. Messrs. P. g. Lnptnn and W. R. Perry attended as a deputation from the Manurewa B ad Board and presented a petition, signed by over 50 ratepayers, asking that the board be mor.'od in the county. The chairman informed the deputation that prosiimincr the petition was in order it would be duly advertised and presented at the next council meeting. Repairs to Bridges. The Hon \V. Eraser (the Minister fur Public Works) wrole in reply to tin' council's application for a grant I r repairs towards the damage to Creamery Bridge, Park Bridge, and Brown's Bridge (CJevedon), stating thai the damage had been the result oi natural decay rather than damage hy Hood, and therefore lie could not giant a subsidy for their renewal out of the Flood Damage vote. If, however, the usual application tor subsidies was made it. would be con--idea-d.
The chairman said he was afraid they"could do nothing except apply lor. the granl ;i- suggested. The clerk (Mr. Hell) pointed out that although grants were allocated it was diflicuJt to get the inone* H was ivsolved, on tin* motion of <Y. Brownhill, that application should In*' made for a subsidy, and that it should he pointed out that the money was required at once. Willows in Creeks.
Messrs. K. 1) McLennan (chairman of the L.-ipakuru Road Board) and J. I'riinble attended and complained of the willows which obstructed the creeks, especially at Brookby. They asked ii the council could use. their influence-to enforce the owners of the adjacent lands to char the creeks. The chairman assured the deputation that the council would co-operate with them in their efforts to clear the i-ieeks a< suggested, and it was.decided to apply to the Law Department lor advice on the subject. Orere Riding.
Me.-srs. A. Rowlands and Cashmore attended as a deputation and complained of -the damage done on the Orere Road, where traflic was seriously impeded, especially after heavy rains. After discussion, in which it was mentioned that four settlers were willing to contribute about £.' so towards the cost, it. was decided to refer the matter lo <V. Bell to inspect and leport. Travelling Facilities. (Vs. A. Muir and J. C. Bryant were appointed to represent the council at the conference, convened by the Otahuhu Borough Council to consider the i|uestion of the utilisation of motor bus or other vehicles for the conveyance of passengers to Papakura. Otahuhu and Auckland after the curtailment of evejnini? trains m-xt month. Brown's Bridge, Clevedon. Mr. !•*. Goodman, contractor, wrote stating that he had started the work on this bridge. He also said that he had inspected the old bridge that had li.,n washed away, and recommended that six concrete' piles be driven in, and that timber on the spot he utilised. The co'l he estimated at C6O.—XO aelirill was taken. Papakura Valley Road. Messrs K. D. McL.nmn and .7. Trimble, as a deputation, asked that repairs he done to the Papakura Valley Road. Cr. Muir explained that the Totara I»iii-I Park Syndicate had agreed to c ntribute ClftO towards the work which ,1 was estimated would cost C 213 6s. and that the Road Board's portion would be CI 10 10s. The chairman suggested that the £IOO be obtained from the syndicate, and ii that amount was divided between the road board and the council probably (he work could be. proceeeded with'.
