BOROUGH OF PUKEKOHE Anzac Day. In accordance with a resolution of the Borough Council I invite all business people to close their premises from 12 noon on WEDNESDAY, 25th inst., and all burgetses to observe a half-holiday on the same date in celebration of Anzac Day. fl. G. R. MASON, 1691 Mayor. - HALF-HOLIDAY POLL To the Electors of Pukekohe. This is a Democratic Country and there can be no fairer method of disposing of the half-holiday question than by means of that Democratic institution—a Referendum of the people. You as Ratepayers (directly or indirfctly) are naturally anxious to have a sav in settling a question that vitally aff-cts your own and Pukekohe's prosperity. Some five or six traders are attempting toj defeat the fair and reasonable objects of this Referendum by threatening to clote their premises on Saturday in the event of Wednesday being declared by vot6 as the half-holiday. This is a rather unsportsmanlike attitude to adopt and seems to be an attempt to coerce the Electo'sinto following the dictates of theae few traders to the detriment of the interests of the people generally Let fair argument prevail. Let us dispose of this question on the fair and square basis —the most good for the mo*t people. Let us settle the question by means of the ballot box, either party standing or falling by this Democratic method of settling the question -and not by highhanded endeavours to coerce the Electors. The future and present prosperity is entirely in your own hands. Vote for WEDNESDAY AND SHOP all Day Saturdays 1612 PUBLIC NOTICE. We, the undersigned, in the month of January last petitioned the Inspector of Shops and Offices at Wellington to be allowed the privilege of closing < ur respective places of business on BATURPAY AFTERNOONS as our weekly half-holiday and such privilege his been granted to us, so when voting on the question at the forth-cmirg election, kindly remember that we hav« de cid*d to close on SAT I KDAY AFTKRNOON as hitheito 1 H DHL 2 VV.
