PUKEKOHE ELECTIONS.

Mayoral and Council Con* tests. Nominations closed at noon yesterday for the biennial mayoral and Council elections. For the office of Mayor Mr James Costello opposes the re-election o! Mr H. 0. R. Mason.

For the eight seats on the Council nine candidates have come forward, viz. : Messrs G. H Armstrong, A. B. Barter, R. Bilkev, A P. Daysh, D. R. Hamilton, H. G. Lysnar, F. J. Morrow, J. PattersoD, and J T. Stembridge. Messrs Barter, Pilkey and Patterson are the only members of the retiring Council again in the field.

Polling in either instance takes place on Wednesday of next week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m , when a votoof the electors will also be in progress to determine the day of the statutory weekly halfholiday in the bonugh.
