Manurewa Town Board.
1 TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —I would like to make a few comments rn the recent Town Board election at Manurewa in which I was a candidate. An unfortunate error occurred, the poll being due to close at 6 p.m. but not closing until 6 10 p.m. In the meantime a voter was allowed to cast his vote, which was illegal. Had the poll closed on time the voting would have been and in that case the Returning Officer would have decided the issue by lot, which would have been fair and satisfactory. As it now stands, it is doubtful if the voice of the electors has prevailed. The position is unsatisfactory to both myself and my opponent. My proper course was to have lodged a protest. My reasons for not doing so weie that I consideied it would be taking an undue advantage of an inexperienced Returning Officer's error and the chance of imposing unnecessary expense upon the ratepayers for a second election.
I am making these comments not from any sense of ill-will or ambition but to simply lay the fa-.ts before the voters in the Manurewa Town Board District.—l am, etc, G. SMITH. Russell Road, Manurewa, 17/4/17. %
