NIGHT-SOIL REMOVAL

Pukekohe's System To Stop

At the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court before Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M., to-day Mr H. J. Hawkins, of Paerata, night-soil contractor to the Pukekohe Borough Council, was prosecuted by the Karaka Road Board for carrying on an offensive trade, to wit night soil removal, in the Board's district without the Board's consent. The facts of the case were that the Karaka Road Board objected to night soil from Pnkekohe being brought into their district, the Council's contractor (the defendant) burying it on his farm there. It was explained that the Board did not press for a heavy penalty but asked for the defendant to cease the practice. A fine of £5 and £3 6s 6d costs was imposed. A report of the case will appear in our next issue.
