"A" FOR ANZAC.
There has been so much discussion and correspondence about the somewhat haphazard use of the term Anzac, the proudest word in the his- * tory of Australia and New Zealand, that it will be a cause for general satisfaction that there is now an official sign and seal to distinguish the real Anzac from his brothers of the Australian and Mew Zealand armies. This is a gold "A " worn on his battalion colours, and we understand that the men privileged to wear it must have participated in at, least two out of the three big events at Oallipoli, the landing, Lone Pine, and the evacuation. Whether this be so, or whether the name covers the Gallipoli campaign in general, the decoration is one of which the wearer may well bo proud, for to all the world wo feel sure that it will count as a decoration an fine as any medal. The new order is likely to be as welcome to the non-Anzac soldiers as to the Anzac themselves, since we know from our correspondence that these men greatly dislike the careless use of the term, which seems to make them claim engagements wherein they had no part.
