The usual ordinary monthly meeting of the Franklin County Council will be held next Thursday. A reminder is given of the social to be held to-night in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, by the Franklin A. and P. Society, in honour of Mr. F. C. Shipherd, who is proceeding to the training camp at an early date.

The second number of the new monthly illustrated publication, entitled "John Bull's Register, New Zealand," was issued last week. As with the first number, it is a most readable production, and its fearless and scathing criticism of alien trading concerns in the Dominion, as also of various trumpery and "quack" lines of commerce, is not only entertaining, but is decidedly instructive. The news matter right through furnishes food for thought, and altogether "John Bull's Register" is a journalistic venture that should deservedly secure very extensive circulation. It is published at 6d, and may be obtained of local newsagents, or may be ordered from John Bull Newspaper Proprietary, Ltd., Wellington.
