WAIPIPI.

A few days ago a public meeting was held in the School to discuss matters in connection with the poisoning of rabbits The attendance numbered about 15 but mterest taken in the proceedings was not of a very keen nature The chairman (Mr W. Craig) expressed the opinion that the season was too far advanced to do much good. However, a committee of seven was appointed to define boundaries and sections, etc. On Friday evening last a social was held in the School the proceeds over being devoted to the Belgian Fund. A committee, consisting of Messrs VV. Gr. Hamilton, C. D. tHeeson, P. Aylward and F. Hall, arranged and carried out the dance, which was fairly well attended. The recent rains have been much appreciated as the moisture was badly wanted for the swede and turnip crops as well as for tome of the newly sown grass. A considerable area of land is being laid down for pasture this season The turnip crops are a great improvement on those of last season and feed for this time "of isjery plentiful. Milking herds are aiso Keeping very well. A chaff and threshing plant have been through the district, managed by Messrs Honey Bros. Several small lots have been put through and barley has turned out very well. Messrs Keogh Bros got 17 sacks from 2A acres, and about the same results were secured by Mr Aylward. There is not a very large amount of oaten chaff locally but wheat crops are poor in grain although there is plenty of straw. Potato crops show an improvement on formor seasons. Maize is really good, some of the crops being 10 or 12 feet high, which speaks well for the one-time so called poverty struck gum lands.
