TUAKAU

Messrs Dalgety and Co. will hold their ordinary monthly stock sale at Tuakau on Tuesday next. At a special meeting of the Tuakau Town Board held on Tuesday, the 27th March, there were present Mr Dynes Fulton (chairman), Capt. Eyder, Messrs W. G. Graham and Perrit. The chairman reported upon his recent visit to Wellington and mentioned that he succeeded in obtaining from the Public Trust Office a sum of £2OOO as part of the £12,000 loan recently approved by the ratepayers. The remainder (£10,000) of the loan would not be procured until aft°r the war and in the meantime the interest and sinking fund will only be payable in respect of the £2ooo.—The action of the chairman was regarded as satisfactory and on the motion of Capt. Ryder, seconded by Mr Graham, it was resolved that the same be confirmed. The Tuakau Patriotic Gala and Sports to be held to-morrow are likely to attract a large number of visitors from all parts of the district and a big crowd is expected. The Kohanga Maori Band will be in attendance and the Committee have provided every attraction to secure a record attendance. Sports commence at 11 o'clock. After the sports in the evening a special picture show has been arranged in the Public Hall when half the proceeds are to be donated to the Patriotic Fund. As the result of the recent Garden Fete and Flower Show, over £SO has been contributed to the Presbyterian Manse Fund for which purpose the Fete was organised. Messrs Lapwood Bros.' flaxmill, which was recently destroyed by fire, has been rebuilt and the machinery and plant is now in working order. Everything is in full swing and work is being carried out expeditiously. Early next month the cream contractor between Tuakau and Onewhero will only bo making four trips a week, instead of daily as now. This is a sign that the milking season is on the wano. •
