PUKEKOHE SCHOOL CONCERT.

The Premier Hall was filled to overflowing on Tuesday evening on the occasion of a concert given by pupils of the Pukekohe District High School, assisted by friends, and promoted in aid of the provision of a School tennis court and towards the purchase of additional typewriting machines for the Technical Education classes.

The items contributed by the scholars testified to the careful training imparted by the Head Master (Mr D. K. Flavell) and his efficient staff of teachers. The young members of the Primer Classes deserve special praise for their effective rendering of a character recitation, entitled " The Seasons," Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter all being represented by children dressed in appropriate seasonable costumes and the lines uttered being respectively descriptive accordingly. Master Tom Walding made a hit with his humorous recitation "Daddy Longlegs" and Master John Morrison most effectively recited M Play the Game." The character action song "I'm only a Dolly" was a pretty performance on the part of Standard I. pupils whilst the songs " British Grenadiers" and "Ye Banks and Braes " were most creditably rendered by senior pupila. Four boys of Standard IV. showed no little ability in their rendering of " The Real Hero," a dialogue with an instructive moral. A graceful exhibition of Highland dancing was given by the Misses A. Wood, L. Armstrong and H. Blake and a comedy sketch, in which the performers were senior pupils, was exceedingly well staged and enacted. Other contributors to the programme were Misses N. Perkins and Duncan (pianoforte duet), Mrs Pilkington, Mr A. Smith and Mr Wbeatley (songs). The performance concluded with the highly effective tableau " The Story of the War," the characters therein being sustained by Mrs L. Bilkey and the Misses Harper L. Allan, G. Leighton, C. Home, Una Wily, H. Home, May Allan. E. Wilcox, Neal, Avery, Flavell, Bagnail, I. Bullock, G. Neal, J. McEean, Huth Allan, Rose Allan, Wily and E. Todd, all of Buckland. Miss Penman ably acted as accompanist. During an interval in the programme Mr Frank Perkins (chairman of the School Committee) paid a high tribute to the headmaster (Mr Flavell) and teaching staff and pointed out that the remarkable progress the school made was due to their efforts. Mi Perkins also referred to the excellent work done by Mr Pilkington iu LL° capacity as the late hon. sec. of th j School Committee and in conclusion presented certificates won by pupils of the evening classes, the recipients being the Misses N Perkins, J. McNally, L. Laundy, I. Duncan, Ruth Allan, C. Levens, Messrs J. Boulcott and J. Roger.
