MERCER.
At the Ngaruawahia Eegatta on March 17th, two boats belonging to the Waikato Shipping Company were engaged in the passenger excursion trade between Huntly and Ngamawahia and were well patronised. These boats were the as. " Erin " and the " Tawera." The shortage in supply of coal is regarded as a serious item in Mercer where a good deal is used in connection with the river traffic. From the latest reports Mr A. 0. Tribe is progressing as well as can be expected but he is not yet regarded as out of danger. He is still in hospital in Auckland. A meeting of the Town Board was held last Wednesday when there were present Messrs Morgan, Gillibrand and Gallery. It was reported that live applications had been received for the position of town clerk, but consideration of the same was deferred untii the next meeting. Tenders were received in respect of grazing on the Cemetery Keserve, but as the amount offered was not in tho opinion of the Board sufficient to warrant the Board in accepting any of the offers made the consideration of the same was postponed. The United Timber Coy's mill has been busy of late and on Saturday last the loading of the 3.8 "Senorita" with three hundred thousand feet of timber for Sydney was completed. The recent rains around Mercer have been very welcome, and it is hoped further raiu will facilitate the carriage of goods on the Waikato river, which, during the last few weeks has become somewhat low, making navigation somewhat difficult. -
