PATUMAHOE
On Thursday of last week the elder children, numbering over 50, attending the Patumahoe school held their annual picnic, Cheltenham beach being their destination. Application had been made by the schoolmaster (MrW.G. Graham) for the party to be conveyed by train from Patumahoe over the new railway line but this request was refused by the Department owing to the passenger service not yet having been authorised. The difficulty, however, was met by Mr J. Henry through his kindness the children wore taken to and from Pukekohe railway station in two waggon teams which he lent for the purpose. Mr E. C. Cuff, secretary to the school committee also assisting by cofaveying a load in his motor car. On arriving at Cheltenham Beach various games were indulged in everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. A letter, dated the l'Jth March, has been received by Mr J. Henry (chairman of the Waiuku Railway League) stating that the Minister of Public Works had accepted a tender for the erection of stations and other buildings on tho new lino and that as sooon as a few formalities had been arranged a contract would bo signed and the work put in hand. It was stated that there had been delay owing to the public invitation of tenders not having produced any result. This news is welcome as a good deal of trado is awaiting the development of further railway facilities.
