DRURY.

The most recent of the many send offs that have taken place lately in Drury was tendered to Sergt. Claude Harding who was visiting the district on his final leave. Although a very short notice was given a large and appreciative gathering met in the Hall. The function was presided over by Mr J. Flanagan, who was in good form and was very happy and apt in his remarks. Sergeant C. Harding was very interesting and instructive, in his speech on camp life. Messrs Glasson and Fife were the other speakers. Messrs Cossey and Morgan supplied the music, Messrs J. and J. Rugg catered, and Mr Tooman, the energetic secretary, generally supervised. Mr Quinn looked after the refreshment department and everything went with a zest and vim and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The Ladies Patriotic League, in addition to their knitting work have been making fifty sanitary shirts and twenty five hussifs per month. The annual gathering of the Band of Hope is now an affair of the past. It was a highly successful assembly and the local officers were helped by friends of the cause who journeyed down from Auckland and by their presence and efforts did much to contribute to its success. The secretary of the Band of Hope, Mr 8. Fielding is a worker of infinite patience and push and the society is lucky to have him in that office.
