PAPATOETOE
[The Papatoetoe Agent for the " Pukekohe Times " is Mr W. J. Dilworth from whom copies of tbo paper may be obtained.] A meeting of the Band of Hope Committee was held in St. John's Hall on Thursday, March Bth. It was decided to hold the first meeting on Wednesday, April 11th. A good programme is being arranged and an address will be given by Rev. iSlade M.A, who will also contribute a violin solo. The entertainment will concludo with a Temperance dialogue by the members of the Band of Hope entitled " Vulgarity versus Refinement." A fine residence of seven rooms built of Clark's Patent Blocks, finished in rough cast, his just been completed for Mr G. Fergio, of Otahuhu Koad. The builder was Mr Clements, of Otahuhu, who is agent for Clark's Patent Blocks for this district. The work of the setting of the blocks and rough casting was carried out by Mr G. Foster, of Papatoetoe. The matter of establishing a nightsoil removal service has been engaging the attention of a number of the residents of Papatoetoe for some considerable time. In a place like Papatoetoe with a population of close on 1000 people it is high time something was done with regard to this ma'ter. The Koad Board have been endeavouring for the past twelve months to put this on a working basis but owing to the difficulty of getting a suitable site for a depot it has been left in abeyance. However, it is understood that Mr H. J. Hawkins, the late contractor for Otahuhu Borough and now the contractor for Pukekohe Borough and Papakura, has informed the Road Board that he has secured a suitable depositing ground and it is to be hoped that the service will soon become an established fact At the end of this month Mr John Wyllie, who has for the past 35 years been a farmer in the district, intends to retire from agricultural pursuits and will hold a clearing sale on Saturday of next week. Mr Wyllie'a herd of dairy cows is well kmwn to be of very high standard. Included in the sale is a new Eureka milking plant, 4bucket, which will he seen in full working order. For many years Mr Wyllie has been a prominent public man in Papatoetoe being a member of the Eoad Board and of the Auckland A. and P. Society, whilst for many years he has been connected with St. John's Presbyterian Church. The following team of bowlers will journey to Pukekohe to-morrow (Saturday) to play a friendly match with a Pukekohe team, viz, Tidmarsh, Dilworth, Chapman and Rawnsley (skip). In matches played last -Saturday on the Papatoetoe Tennis Club's courts for the De Pas cup Richardson 71 heat Mellsopp 69 and C. Western Gs_lost to C. Elder 70 For the Bradstreet trophy L.
