CLEVEDON.

FARM EES' UNION MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Clevedon Branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Public Hall on the evening of Saturday last, March 10th. The members present were Messrs C. A. Fawcett (president), J. Hancock, J. T. Murray, H. S. Munro, J. B. Aicken, C. C. Munro, W. T. Duder, T. Burrows, J. Luke, H. J. Bull, H. H. Cawte, A. D. Bell, L. H. Burgoyne, F. Stephens, 8. Browne, W. Stephens, P. C. Waters and J. A. Gandy (secretary). The following new members were elected Mrs L A. Torr and Messrs R. H. Parker, L. P. Piggott and Jos Simpkin The Provincial Office wrote stating that they were still protesting against the Butter-fat Tax. The letter was received.

The Provincial Office wrote askiDg farmers to support Co-op. Freezing Companies in order to obviate exploitation as far as possible. Resolved " that the letter be received."

The Provincial Office wrote asking the Branch to appoint a Committee to assist the Military Service Board in dealing with local appeals.—lt was resolved that the Provincial Office be written to the effect that "as the Efficiency Boards are already appointing committees to deal with this matter, the Branch does not consider the appointing of a local committee necessary."

In connection with a resolution passed by the Provincial Executive with respect to the raising of the age limit of children entitled to half fares on the railways to fifteen yeaxs, it was resolved to write the Executive to the effect that " this Branch considers that the time is not opportune for the concession asked for."

A scheme for the settling of returned soldiers on the land was also received and a resolution was passed in favour of supporting any workable scheme that will assist the returned soldiers on to the land and suggesting that cheap money and easy tenure are the principal items for consideration. The Provincial Executive wrote asking the Branch to give an opinion on a scheme put forward for the forming of various branches into sub-Executives, of appointing a paid organiser and of raising the members annual subscriptions.—After fully discussing the matter it was resolved to forward the following reply: " I hat the action of the Provincial Executive in appointing an organiser be approved ; that the annual subscription of members of various branches be raised to £1 per annum; that this Branch prefers to defer a decision on the question of forming Sub-Executives until further information is available and that the newly-appointed organiser pay this Branch a visit on the occasion of our next annual meeting, on April 7th next.

Two resolutions were carried as follows and the secretary was instructed to forward copies of same to the Provincial Office, viz. : " That it be a recommendation to the Efficiency Board that all landowners should be compelled to plant crops according to the value and suitability of thuir holdings, and that a payable price should be fixed for their products, during the war " and " That the Second Division should be immediately classified and called up in rotation instead of by ballot as at present." The Wairoa Koad Board give notice in our advt. columns that Mr J. A. Clarke has been appointed Dog Registrar and that all owners must registrar their dogs with him by the 29th inst., the fees payable being 2s 6d for cattle, sheep or rabbit dogs and TOs for other dogs. ♦
