The appeal was heard by the Military Board at Hamilton yesterday of Mr Chas. Bert Olarke, farmer at Kikikihi, and son of Mr Charles Clarke, of Pukekohe. The appellant, it appeared, enlisted in Auckland about 14 months ago, but was rejected, as he was suffering from a bad knee incurred by an accident through football. He subsequently submitted himself to another doctor in order to ascertain whether there was any chance of getting through, but the report was an adverse one, the medical man being satisfied that he would never get to the front. In view of this decision appellant's father purchased a farm at Kihikihi and placed him on it to work. He had now been passed by the Medical Board. In addition to the farm of 150 acres, appellant was also looking after that of a soldier who was at the front.—After hearing the evidence of the appellant and his father, the latter stating that his only other son of military age was already in camp and that as he (the father) only had one arm it would be impossible for! him to work the farm, the Board adjourned the appeal sine die, pending a report from the Efficiency Board, appellant to be granted exemption in the meantime so long as he remains in bis present position.
