THE WAIUKU RAILWAY.

Works Progressing. Steady progress is being made with the construction of the new railway line to Waiuku. Ballasting between Paerata and Patumahoe is in hand, what is technically known as the first "lift," of a depth of four inches, having been completed some time ago and the second " lift," of a depth of three inches, being now nearly finished. This latter will be followed by the third and final " lift " of one inch in depth A gang has started this week to complete the. erection of Mauku station and also the approaches to the overhead bridge at Mauku and no time will bo lost in laying the plates from Patumahoe to Mauku. The explanation of the removal of material intended for use on the Waiuku side of tKe Mauku Creek is that there is no probability of the steel required for the construction of the bridge coming to hand before the close of the war and seeing that work for the line on the Waiuku sine will occupy less time than the erection of the bridge such will be carried out at the same time that the bridge is being dealt with
