Messrs H. R. Harris (Pukekohe) and C. F. Woolfe (Buckland) have enlisted at the Defence Office, Pukekohe, during the last few days. Before the Military Service Board in Auckland yesterday the appeal was heard of Mr Bernard Foy, of Pukekohe, who claimed exemption on the ground that he was a producer and that it would be detrimental to public interests if he had to serve. He also claimed that he supported his sister. It was stated in evidence that as a potato grower Mr Foy deserved special consideration since it would be almost impossible to secure anyone to carry on the farm in his absence. The appeal was dismissed but exemption was allowed until May 31st. Other cases dealt with included Messrs Francis 0. McGahan, of Tuakau, (exempted until April 13th) and J. C. McGahan (exempted under Section 35), the appeal of Mr W. D. McGahan being withdrawn as the appellant had been rejected as medically unfit. Messrs John and Robt. Dalton (Pukekohe) both appealed, the former being exempted until April 13th and the latter's appeal being allowed under Section o5 with Mr John Dalton agreeing to serve.
