A WELL ARRANGED FARM 'By Our Travelling Correspondent.; On the main road from Puni to Aka Aka, where the Waikato can be clearly soen acting as an indicating line of a splendid fertile district, stands the home and farmstead of Mr L. J. Hastings, The house has a
modest appearance and is convenient and in keeping with the general surroundings. Overlooking a magnificent stretch of country Mr Hastings' farm of 220 acres is well arranged, and its rolling land divided into paddocks of handy size is adaptable for both cropping and dairying Admittedly one of the best crop of turnips grown in the district Mr Hastings informed the writer, has only been sown two months, three hundred weight of blood and bone dust manure to the acre being used on it. Perhaps the most attractive feature on the property —or ut least that of which the owner is justly proud—is the Treloar milking machine plant. This is driven by a Felix motor engine of 5 hp. with a vacuum pump, an Alfa-Laval separator being the adjunct. Mr Hastings speaks highly of the whole plant, two of his boys being able to milk the whole herd of 60 cows by the aid of the machine in two hours. The range of hills at the back forms a splendid protection from winds, and a convenient landing stage on the banks of the Waikato river enables farm and other produce to be landed by boat direct from Hamilton and other places. Mr Hastings runs some good young stock for fattening, the rising hill land, with its plentiful supply of water, providing good ieod for cattle. Th 6 general situation and arrangement of the farm, with its well-tended crops, creates a favourable impression, and the absence of blackberries and other weeds indicates good tilling.
