KARAKA ROAD BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Karaka Eoad Board was held on Saturday last, when there were present : Messrs J Batty (chairman), D. Jamieson, J. Macpherson and J. Kidd, with the clerk, Mr H. E. Glasson. NIG 111-SOIL DEPOT DISPUTE. In regard to the controversy in connection with the site at present used as a night-soil depot by Mr H. J. Hawkins, the contractor to the Pukekohe Borough Council, a letter was read from Mr Hawki s applying for permission to establish a night-soil depot on Mr D. Jamieson's property adjoining his present site, and stating that Dr Hughes, the Health Officer, had inspected and sanctioned the use of the same for the purpose The consideration of this application was held over until next meeting by reason of Mr John Schlaepfer, the district's representative, not being present. engineer's expenses. In the matter of the claim bv Mr Moore for expenses incurred as engineer in the construction of the Hingaia and Whangamaire bridges, Messrs Buddie, Bichmond and Buddie, the Board's solicitors, wrote stating that Mr Moore would not accept £25 in respect of his claim for travelling expenses, but would be prepared to settle at £4O. On the motion of Mr Jamieson, seconded by Mr Kidd, it was decided to increase the Board's offer by £l 10s, making £32 10s, that sum being regarded as a reasonable amount for travelling expenses. A LOAN ACCOUNT. The chairman reported that the sum of £6OO was now available for the purpose of paying off the money in respect of the plant and quarry which had been taken from the loan a count. The loan account could now be repaid and that would meet the wishes of the auditor.—The B>ard agreed. WASHOUTS. The chairman stated that during the recent floods washouts had occurred at a culvert near black bridge and also at Glasson's creek and he had had those works attended to. Olasson's creek, although on the county road, had been attended to as he regarded it as urgent.
The action of the chairman was confirmed, and it was decided to askthe County Council for payment of the cost entailed at Glasson's creek.

Mr Kidd reported that if. the Board would supply the pipes at Mr Brown's, leading to the Maori Settlement, Mr Brown had undertaken to do the work.
Permission was given for Mr Brown to do this, 4-inch pipes would be supplied by the Board as desired. bre.mner's road, runciman.
The chairman mentioned that Mr Bremner had asked him if the Board would repair a washout at his bridge, which was private property. As it was doubtful whether the Board could accept any responsibility in the matter, it was decided to refer the question to the Board's solicitors as to whether it Bhould be repaired by the Board or by Mr Bremner. APPLICATION TO CLOSE ROAD. Mr C. Whitburn, Eunciman, submitted a plan of a road he proposed to have closed in Swift street and land known as "the Crescent" adjoining Kunciman station.—Mr Macpherson was deputed to inspect the site in question and report.
glasson's CREEK BRIDGE
Attention was drawn by the chairman to the unsatisfactory state of the retaining walls to this bridge, which the County Council had renewed some time ago. It was decided to communicate with the County Council thereon.
