Ibere was a good attendance at the "send-off" social and dance oo Thursday of last week in Rictardson'a Picture Palace Hall, when nine local men attached to the 21at, 22nd and 23rd Reinforcements were farewelled. The guests were Privates W. Elliott, F. Seaton, G. S. Adams, E. Wheatcroft, T. Knight, K. Walker, F. Parker, R. Grant and F. Birkbeck. During the evening Mr J. Richardson screened souie excellent pictures, one in particular, "The Charge of the Light Brigade," being especially appreciated. Dance music was supplied by Messrs Hawthorn and Green. Those who contributed songs were Mr T. J. Seaton, who sang "Banderlar" with great expression, while Miss Mack delighted all with tier rendering of "My Ain Folk." Mr Hoi*, who was unable to be present, sent a contribution of £2 ss. The Kev. W. C. presided. Appropriate and encouraging words were addressed to the men by tbe chairman, and Messrs D. W. Jones end E. D. McLennan added their testimonies of the charaeteri of their guests and wished them tbe best of luck. Each of tbe nine men were then presented by the chairman with auto-strop safety razors, and they suitably responded, thanking'all for their gifts. Tbe floor was in an excellent state for dancing and a gay company enjoyed themselves to the stiains of the music provided, Mr W. Howe creditably carrying out the duties of M.C. Supper was served under the superintendence of Mrs J. Woodhouse, assisted by the Misses E. Walker, B. Tuely and others, tbe basketß of refreshments being provided by tbe ladies. It should be added that many thanks are due tj Mr J. Andrews, who spent much time in preparing the floor, thus enabling the "light trippers" to continue their fantastic steps until morning dawned. Although not a large gathering was present in the Parish Hal! last evening, when the Rifle Club meiDbers met, the meeting was representative of those who know how to handle a rifle. Amung those present were Messrs W. S. Kowe, president, D. W. Jones, expreßident, C. C. Tuely, vicepresident, Captain A. M. Butterworth, vice-president, Walters, instructor, A. Richardson, A. Bullen, the Rev. W. C. Wonda, Mr P. Holt, secretary, Privat :e» W Elliott and Fmlay Seaton and others. Opening with "God Save the King," the president asfced Mr D. W.
