BUCKLAND.
On December 16th the Methodist Sunday School held their annual picnic on Mr Butler's farm. Being a fine day there was a large gathering, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mr and Mrs Butler and the teachers were very successful in their efforts to amuse the children, and to make all the visitors enjoy themselves. On the motion of the Rev. J. B. Suckling, seconded by Mr Avery, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr and Mrs Butler for the use of their grounds and to the officers of the Sunday school. On the same day as the above the Anglican Sunday School held their annual picnic in Mr R. Johnston's bush. A pleasant time was spent in games and sports for the children. The Buckland Old Girls' Association organised a picnic on Boxing Day, at Mr Fred Lawson's farm by the Waikato river. There was a large attendance, about eighty being present, and a very pleasant day was spent, the president, Mrs H. H. D. Wily, and Mr Wily in no small degree contributing to the success of the gathering. The Association wish to thank Messrs Avery and Sweet for the use of their horses and waggons for the occasion. A meeting of the hall trustees was held on the 29th ult., when Mr W. Jefferis, the chairman, resigned the office owing to leaving for Trentham, and Mr A J. Melville was elected in his place. It is intended to give a farewell social to Messrs T. Condon and W. Leighton to-night (Friday), who are home on final leave.
One of the largest losers by the recent floods was Mr Willis, whose colony of bees on Mr T. B. Graham's farm was washed down the creek a considerable distance and was practically ruined.
