PUNI.
The continuous downpour of rain on Wednesday of last week made a postponement of the original programme necessary, and in place of the intended ball to mark the unofficial opening of the new hall a social and dance was held. The programme was carried through until 4 a.m., when the company separated after a most enjoyable gathering. Those who braved the elements were loud in their appreciation of the admirable manner in which the ladies' committee catered for those present. Songs were rendered by Messrs W. T. Jones and J. Ball and by the Misses G. and S. Glover. A cornet solo was given by Mr Whinwray, while Mr J. Roberts, as violinist, did more than good service, his efforts being in a great measure responsible for the successful time held. The tickets issued for the ball will entitle the holder to be present at a. function to be held at a date sometime in January not vet definitely settled, but which will be advertised in due course.
