School Children's Activity.

It may be interesting to the parents of children attending the Pukekohe District High School and others to learn of the work done by the young folks for the soldiers' comfort In April last it was suggested to the children that they should spare a penny a week to help to buy material for making handkerchiefs, etc, as the f chool had been asked by the Auckland Women's Provincial League what it could do to help. A promise to supply fifty handkerchiefs a month was made and has been faithfully carried out The amount collected in this way is £7 15s Old, and this has been augmented by a fnrther sum of £1 6s 3d (being prize money, plus 2s 6d, won at the Lady Liverpool League bazaar), making a total of £9 Is 3}d. The expenditure for the year is as follows: Wool £2 lis lOd, khaki material £2 18s sd, towelling £1 0s 9d, vests £1 4s Bd, cotton, etc., 3s l£d, balance £1 2s6d; total, £9 Is 3Jd. Articles supplied are as follows: 50 towels, 38 boracic vests, 350 handkerchiefs, 100 small bags, 80 flannels for hussifs, 19 Balaclavas, 17 pairs mittens, 13 scarves, 9 pairs socks.

The names of knitters are Alice Leep, Lily Smith, Myrtle Blake, Gwen Lees, Bella Stuart, E. McNally, Lucy Hay ward, M. McNally, N. Laur, Laura Leaman, Lena Torbott, M. Shotbolt, M. Boberts, W. Turner, A. Potter, M. Bever, M. Middleman, G. Neal, A Hamlin, G. Lysnar and M. Brown, the first named having knitted six articles and also donated half her prize money to the fund.
