WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.

Pukekohe Branch. A quarterly meeting of members of the local branch of the Womeu's Patriotic League was held in the Pukekohe-Borough Council Chambers on Dec. sth, Miss Webster presiding and twelve members being present. The following is the President's report for the three months work : Belgian week—Between three and four hundred dozen eggs received and packed and forwarded to Auckland.

" Money raised at bazaar, less expenses, totalled £176 9s 2d. Knitting consisted of—Caps 162, scarves 39, sox 57 pairs, mittens 32 pairs, belts 23 and bed socks 2 pairs including donations of 35 knitted comforts. *

Sewing—loo hussifs, 50 sanitary shirts, also several articles made for sale at bazaar.

Gift parcels totalled 619 at 2s 6d each (2 months), 257 at ss, these being the Xmas parcels. Two resignations had been received, viz., Miss Townson from the executive and entertainment committees and Mrs Motion as organiser of the literature committee, Mrs Stuart being duly appointed to fill both vacancies.

Five new members had joined the League including Miss Goldsworthy and Mrs Turner.

The president further reported expenses incurred for the quarter amounted to £B2 10s lOd and the balance at the bank was £IBO 14s lOd.

The members present considered the balance sheet very satisfactory and thanked the president for all the trouble she had taken in preparing it. A meeting of the executive committee of the branch was held on Wednesday, December 13th, Mits Webster (in the chair): present, Mesdames Hogan, Motion, Stuart and Baxter.

Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Webb and Miss Usher. A letter was read from Mrs Gunson, President of the Auckland Patriotic League, congratulating the members of the local branch on the success of the recent bazaar both financially and otherwise, and also a letter of acknowledgement and thanks for two parcels of knitted comforts and 1 parcel of hussifs (50). Miss Webster reported having received for the months of December and January 481 Dominion Gift parcels. Accounts to the amount of £9 17s Id were passed for payment. Miss Usher, convener of the Sewing Committee, sent a written report stating that her committee had made and dispatched to Auckland the usual batch of hussifs and sanitary shirts (50 of each). Mrs Baxter, in the absence of Mrs Webb, stated that at a special meeting of the Entertainment Committee it had been agreed by the members to cancel the two "market days" previously arranged to collect funds on behalf of the local Military Farewell and Reception Committee owing to the Christmas holidays being so close. The committee had decided to hand to above-mentioned committee a donotion of £2O instead, the

fame to be paid from the money raised at the recent bazaar.

Mrs Stuart, organiser of the Literature Committee, appeals to one and all for the gift of books, magazines and illustrated papers, providing they are in fair good order, and the same may be left at the Borough Council Chambers or with, any member of the League. The organiser stated it was her intention to forward to Auckland one box of literature every month, providing sufficient is forthcoming to do so. Blake, Hooey, Henry (Puni), 4 each; Miss Gallaway, 3; Mesdames Hewlett, Maxwell, Thornell, Bell (Mauku), 2 each; Mesdames Lindsay, J. Wilson (Franktom), A E. Taylor, G. Brown and Driver, Misses Graham, N. Brown, Muriel Cox, Elsie Jones, Marion McClune, 1 each. Socks—Mrs Meikle (Pollok), 3 pairs; Mrs B. M. S. Moore, 2 pairs; Mesdames Mcßae, J. B. Brown, Legge, Fleming, Honeyford, Grant, Baxter, Misses Gallaway, Craig, Mavis Hay, Bowden, Usher, Chalmers, Irene Landon, 1 pair each. Scarves—Mrs Shaw, 2; Mesdames Hewlett, Robinson (Puni), R. J. Stevenson, J. J. Hart, Misses Goldsworthy, Chalmers, Gallaway, 1 each. Belts—Mrs Hooey, 2; Miss Graham, 1. Mittens—Mm Cowperwaite (Mt. Eden), 8 pair; Mesdames J. B. Brown, Driver, Miss Craig, 1 pair each.
