Tli. 1 Chri-tiania *' Aftenposten v saythat a Norwegian expedition which lias just returned from Spitsbergen discovered enormous new coal deposits in the eastern districts near Green Harbour.

The deposits are reported to consist of two strata at different depths, one of tlicm from two to three yards thick. They cover a territory of 200 square miles, and contain about a thousand tens of first-class coal. Plans are being worked out for constructing a groat- mining plant capable of producing 200.000 tons yearly.
