FLOWER SHOW AT PUKEKOHE.
A Brilliant Exhibition.
Anticipation;) in regard to tbe eucc ss of the flower snow ad of borne prducts, organ-
ised for the benefit if the urns of the Pukekohe Anglican Cburcb and which was opened yesterday in the Premier Hall, were quite eclipsed by the large entry that wts secured, as also by tbe high standard of merit of tbe exhibits.
With a c mmittee for the gener part making a fist acquaintance witn show arrangements some shortcomingi wtrj naturally in evidenc?, more particularly in regard to lack of adeqiate provision for prorerly stagrg ail the blooms that were forthcoming in «uch unexpectedly large numhers, but omissions in that way were promptly rectified as far as posiibl*, and on tbe ptinciylij that "experience teaches" exhibitors can rest aa=ur.d that whir was lacking this tear will certainly not be found amisi another year. The show furnished brilliant testimony to the productive of tbe soil of tbe district. Tbe rose section sulfated through V e season being too tar advanced tor most growers, but tbe sweet peas on view were of marked variety and excellence. All kin:'? of cut flowers also were of supTior quality. "Home Industries" once again demonstrated the domestic capabilities of the ladies of tbe district, whilst their artistic handiwork wa* also visibly in eviler.c; in the floral decorative section, the juniors (children) in either department closely following in the footsteps nt tteir elder*. Vegt tables constituted another strong class. The judghg was most capably carried out by Mrs H. L. Nixon, of Cambridge, Hone Industries and Floral Artittry; Mr W. E. Lippiatt, of Auckland, Kcs p, Sweet Peas and Cut Flowerß; and Mr E. Allan, of Buckland, Vegetables.
As president of the show, Mr A. B. Barter exhiHted bis characteristic energy, and the attention he gave to all details was of a very thorough character. Amongst the honorary "workers" Mr and Mis J. M. Baxter were as usual (o the fore, and their assistance was much appreciated by the Committee. The secretarial arrangements were ably undertake.! by Messrs A. F. Brown and F. E. Simpson.
Charming collec'ions of roses "tot tor competition" were shown bv Mr W. E. Lippiatt and Messrs D. Hay and Son, both well-knnwn Auckland growers, whilst Mrs F. L. Wright, ot Kama Kama, kindly exhibited some grand specimens of Japanese Iris and Water Lilie?, and Mr W. K. Cojnthsaite, of Bombay, and Mr Ballard, of Uucciman, similarly showed some choice pelargoniums and delphiniums respectively. A tine array of fruit and vegetables served as a good advt. for He?rlegen's Fruit Stores. A produce stall was controlled by Mis and Miss Dell; Tbe Misses Barter, 1. Brown ami N. Wake had charge of a 1 illy stall; and afternoon tea, with s rawberries anl cream, was dispensed by members of the Ladies' Guild. The show was officially opened yesterday afternoon by Mr K. F. Bollard, M.P., and an excellent attendance were secured at both tbe afternoon and evening sessions. The doors will be finally closed to-night, subsequent to the customary sale of produce and gueds donated to the committee.
