Mr Wm. Roulston, whose state of health yesterday caused some anxiety, has been oidered by his medical adviser to take a respite from the worries of business.
Students of the Pukekohe Evening Classes are invited to attend a social to be held as the wind-up of the session in the school next Monday evening.
A start has been made with the preliminary work of levelling the ground on the railway section opposite the Pukekohe police station prior to the erection thereon of a new and commodious store shed for Mr VV. Roulston's business.

Tho Pukekohe Methodist Circuit is to hold a convention to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon from 1.30 to 7 o'clock. The speakers will be the Rev H. E. Bellhouse (Ponsonby) and tho Rev C. C. Harrison (Onehunga). There will be an adjournment for tea at 4 p.m. Visitors will be welcomed from all parts of the district.
Some uncertainty prevails as to whether or not Rifleman G F. Kimber, late of Pukekohe, is on the wounded list On October 14th, his brother, Mr A. J. Kimber, also of Pukekohe, was advised by tho Defence Department that Rifleman Kimbe had been wounded in action on September 20th but a letter, dated October 9th, and written " .somewhere in Franco " by Rifleman Kimber reached Mr Kimber this week statinj that up tn tho time of wrking he had " conio out nil light."

Warrant Orticer " Fred'' Marshall, a well-known ex-resident of Pukekohe, is back in ihe town on final leave. He enlisted as a private soma eighteen months ago and has since been engaged in drill instruction duties at the training ciinps, having gradually been promoted to his present rank. He is to leave with the 20th reinforcements for the front at an early date. The NZ. Harris, the company's local buyer, has been connected with the telephone, his number being 112 Pukekohe. If the voluntary system of recruiting is t be maintained and conscription avoided in the Auckland Military District a shortage of 75 men for service with the 25th Reinforcements, who go into camp next month will have to be made up on or before to-morrow (Saturday). The Mayor of Pukekohe has been asked by the Auckland City Recruiting Centre to make the position known so that local volunteers should do their part in Hssisting to fill the District's necessary complement.
At the instance of the Defence Depaitment the prosecution took place at the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court yesterday of V. A Rogers, a farmer, of Puni, for having failed to attend the military camp held at Avondale from fst to 12th Mav last, for Territorials. The defendant pleaded guilty but put forward the excuse that ne had unsuccessfully endeavoured to secure the services of a brother to milk his cows and feed the pigs on the farm so that he could attend the oamp. He pleaded that with a shortage of labour he had no option but to nniain on at the farm. Sergt.-Major Hatt, appearing on behalf of the Defence Department stated that he knew of no valid reason for Roger's failure to go into camp, particulatly as he had a number of s-inglcbrotherswhoinight have assisted on the farm duriug his ab-scnce.Police-Sergt. Cowan stressed the point that of four " single " members of the Rogers family and one who h&d been married since the war started none had offered their services to their country. The Magistrate took the view that defendant had conhned his efforts to go to camp to a somewhat narrow radius and fined him £2 and 7s costs-
