BUCKLAND.
A very successful social was given by a committee of the Ladies' Patriotic League in the Public Hall on November 25th, in aid of the wool fund, and the gathering resulted in tho sum of £8 being added to that fund. The committee were much indebted to tho friends who came from Pukekohe to assist with the programme, which was as follows, viz.: Solos by Mrs Keane, Mrs Hewitt, Misses Aldridge, Bagnall, Davy and Holloway and Messrs Jones and T. Walker ; and recitation by Mr H. Gribble. After supper had been handed round the hall was cleared for dancing. Under the management of the Farmers' Union a collection of eggs for the Belgian Fund was made last month, which resulted in a fair nnmber being forthcoming. At the invitation of the Farmers' Union, Messrs Barugh and Baron, of the N Z. Farmers' Co op. Bacon and Meat Packing Co., adddressed a well-attended meeting in the Hall on November 29th. After very interesting and instructive addresses from the two speakers, who fully explained tho objects and advantages of the new Company, numerous questions were asked and answered to the evident satisfaction of the audience, who unanimously passed the following resolution, proposed by Mr J. Wylie, and seconded by Mr J. K. Hamilton, viz. : " That this meeting expresses its hearty thanks to Messrs Barugh and Baron for their addresses, and recommends the schome put forward to the favourable consideration of tho farmers of this district."
