MERCER.
WAIKATO SHIPPING CO., LTD. A meeting of the directors of the Waikato Steam Ship Co. took place at the registered office, Mercer, on Friday last, the following being present, viz.: Messrs J. T. Johnson (chairman), C. C. Davis, L. B. Horrocks, E T. Frost and R. Clephane. Mr M. H. Wynyard, solicitor to the Company, was also present, and all final legal details were attended to. The Company started operations as from Monday, November 21st, and Mr Davis, who is managing pro tem, reported that a record week's work had been accomplished, close on 2000 cases of benzine, besides some tons of sundries, having come in at the Heads and having been distributed along the river between Mercer and Cambridge. Arrangements had been entered into to hire the Waikato River Board's launch and barges to cope with the increasing trade. The Freetrader had been put ashore for extensive repairs. Arrangements will be made to extend the business to the Waipa river shortly.
