BACON TRADE CO-OPERA-TION.
New Company's Aims.
Representative meetings of dairy farmers were held at Bombay and Rama Rama yesterday, to meet representatives of the newly-formed N.Z. Farmers' Co op. Bacon and Meat Packing Co. Mr J. Barugh, one of the directors of the Company* and Mr 8. C. Baron, the General Manager, addressed the gatherings. Mr Baron gave an outline of the reasons that the new Company had been formed. He pointed out that in the past the bacon industry had not progressed as it should have done, owing to the unsatisfactory conditions which obtained. It was therefore only natural that those engaged in the bus'nsss thndd look about and endeavour to improve those conditions. It was pointed out that there had been in the past a lot of unnecessary duplication and overlapping in the buying and selling ends of the business and the merging of the various interests would bring about better conditions in these directions. The difficulty was to make into one the Proprietary and Co-operative Companies. It was recognised that the trend of the times was in the 'direction of cooperation and the shareholders of Pimock and Co decided to submerge their interests into those of the new Co-operative Company. The various Companies met and the result was the formation of the new Compauy. The capital of the new concern was £200,000 of which approximately £ 12.5,000 had been subscribed and something like £97,000 paid up in hard cash. The new Company was in the happy position of not wanting capital no much as the interest and support of the farmer. Mr Barugh, who is well-known throughout the Auckland district as one of tbe poineers of co-operation, pointed out the great fuccess which had attended the efforts of the -Freezing Co , Auctioneering Co. and other enterprises, and he strongly recommended the new Bacon Co. to the farmers, as he ielt sure th*t with the support of the producers the concern would be a great success. Widespread interest, he said, was being shown in the new Company, something line 4000 shares have been applied for since the Ist October. The farmers who attended the meetings expressed their interest in the Company by taking up a number of shares.
Messrs Barugh and Baron proceed to Patumahoe and Tuakau to-day, to-morrow they will speak at Waiuku (afternoon) and Buckland (evening), and on Thursday, at 2 pm., a meeting will be held in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe.
