MERCER TOWN BOARD.
Monthly Meeting.
At the regular monthly meeting ;of the Mercer Town Board, held on Tuesday evening last, Mr George Morgoh (chairman) presided. Other members present were - : Messrs M. Gallery, J. T. Gilhbrand and A. Smith, with the clerk, Mr T. Wright. UNLMTKOVKD VALUE BATING. A letter advising that the Board's enquiries for information respecting the petition submitted to the Board asking for a poll of ratepayers to be taken on the question of rating on the unimproved value had been submitted to the Hon. Minister for Internal Affairs for his Department to deal with was received from the Attorney-General. INTERNED ALIENS. The Board's support was sought by the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce in respect to a resolution passed by that authority, asking the Government to employ interned aliens on the main arterial roads of the Dominion —A unanimous decision to support the proposal was arrived at. MISOELLANEOI'S. A letter was read from Mr W. Ridgley, stationmaster, adv'sing tho Board to approach the tenants of the railway cottages in respect to the Board's complaint re rubbish being deposited on Hill street. —The chairman was deputed to wait on Mr Ridgley with a view of arriving at a satisfactory settlement. An offer to fence and keep clear the cemetery reserve conditionally on being given a five years' lease thereof was received from Mr H. Dix. —The Board decided to go mora fully in*o the matter before replying thereto. Mr Gillibrand reported that two residents were prepared to take up rangers' duties if a detention paddock was provided, and he was empowered to arrange for a paddock. On the chairman reporting that an enquiry had been made as to whether the Public Hall was available, under certain conditions, for picture entertainments, the matter was discussed, with the result that the chairman was authorised to make satisfactory arrangements, if possible, on behalf of the Board. THE CLERKSHIP, Mr Wright asked the Board to accept his resignation qs clerk, as he had been accepted for military service.—Regret was expressed at Mr Wright's resignation, but at the same time he was commended for the step he had taken —The matter of appointing a successor was finally settled by Mr Gillibrand being appointed to engage Mr Freebourne for the position. riNANC'E. Accounts totalling £9 7s 6d were passed for payment.
