PUKEKOHE EAST.
A FAREWELL SOCIAL. On Tuesday evening of last week a veiy successful social was held in the Public Hall as a send-off to Privates B. Penny, A. Reynolds, W. Lauer, T. Lauer and R. Grant who are all shortly leaving for the seat of war. Dancing commenced at eight o'clock and was kept up till 2 a.m. The iloor, which was packed to its utmost, was in splendid condition and one of the most enjoyable dances of the season resulted. In a short speech Mr J. Glenie thanked the boys for having come forward as they had done at a time when their country needed them and wished them a safe return, concluding by calling for three hearty cheers after which all joined in "For they are Jolly Good Fellows." The music supplied by Mrs D. Keane was much appreciated, also extras gwn by Master Fitness (violin), Miss Fitness (piano). Miss J. Aldridge's song delighted the audience.
The supper arrangements presided over by Mis Glenie, who always comes forward on these occasions, were highly praised. Messrs J. Glenie and C. Hawke acted as M's.C.
