TUAKAU.

MR HERRIES TO VISIT TUAKAU. The Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister of Railways, is arriving in Tuakau on Tuesday morning next by the 11.30 express. He will be met at the station by the Town Board and an inspection of the stationmaster's house and of the obstructions to a clear view of the level crossing will be made to permit of the Minister judging of the Board's application for their removal. The matter of the proposed overhead bridge on the site of the crossing will also be urged. A strong deputation from Pukekawa and Onewhero will support the Tuakau representatives in their demands.

Pending more definite arrangements Mr H. B. Free, who has disposed of his business interests in Tuakau to Mr F. J. Thompson, who is well-known in the wholesale trade in Auckland, is going to follow an outdoor occupation with a view of renewing his strength. The New Zealand Dairy Association's old boiler which has been an eyesore for many months past was removed by traction engine from were it had lain on the Association property to Messrs Smeed Bros' farm to be used for driving a milking machine. Mr J. C. Quinlan, postmaster, resumes duty to-morrow (Saturday.) On Monday evening last by the direction of the Tuakau School Committee householders met in the school to bid adieu to Miss Fenton who has been transferred from the teaching staff at Tuakau school to the Takapuna school. Miss Fenton was made the recipient of a purse of sovereigns. Arrangements for the Grand Patriotic Children's Fair, to be held in the Tuakau Public Hall on the 15th November, to assist the Tuakau Patriotic League's funds, are well in hand, and it only remains for the residents to give it their wholehearted support to ensure success. A very favourable report concerning the gold mine at Tokitea, Cerouiandel, which has been purchased by the New Triumph Gold Mining Co., i.e., Messrs A. Grigor and A. B. Baiter (Pukekohe), P. A. Eowe, D. Hunt, J. Fleming, Jas. Henderson, J. P. and A. J. Prescott (Tuakau) and J. Wilcox (Buckland), has come to hand from Mr J. P. Prescott, who left Tuakau several weeks ago to take up the management thereof on behalf of the Company. The report states that during breaking down operations on one reef strong blotches of gold in the stone were seen, while on the new reef the indications looked very favourable and gold should be located at any time. In compliance with a request issued by the Auckland Eecruiting Committee asking for the attendance of Mayors of Boroughs and Chairmen of County Councils and Road Boards at an important meeting to transact business with effect to the revised area of No. 1 group ifrom Auckland to Tuakau bridge), Mr Dynes Fulton, Chairman of the Town Board, his intention of being present.
