The Eight Rev. Dr. Averill, Bishop of Auckland, arrived in Pukekohe on Saturday morning. A large and representative gathering of parishioners of Pukekohe and surrounding districts welcomed him in the afternoon at an "At Home " arranged under the auspices of the Ladies' Guild in the Oddfellows' Hall. His Lordship celebrated Holy Communion at the Parish Church at 8 o'clock. Previous to the celebration he dedicated the handsome alter made and presented to the Church by Messrs John, Frank and Fred. Duncan and Mr G Haslam. There was a large number of communicants Mr H. Curd kindly conveyed the Bishop and the Vicar by motor to and from St. Paul's, Buckland, for the 11 o'clock service, where Dr Averill delivered an eloquent discourse to a full church. At 3 p.m. his Lordship ministered Confirmation to twenty-six candidates at Pukekohe, every available part of the building being tilled by a large congregation. The Bishop's two addresses were marked by their clear sacramental teaching. At Evensong the parish church was again filled to overflowing.
