MANUREWA.

The Manurewa Tennis Club commenced v a successful combined doubles tournament on Labour Day. The following is a corrected list of vice-presidents of the Club, viz., Mrs Palmer, Messrs Hawthorn, McNaughton, Lupton, and White. A serious accident happened to a Manurewa resident, Mrs Keyte, on Monday of last weel. With a child of about two years of age she was driving alight trap alongthe South road, and when opposite Messrs Hawthorn and Munroe's butchery the horse stumbled, causing the baby to be thrown forward. On the mother trying to save the child both fell on to the horse's back and rolled over on to the road. The horse, on recovering itself bolted and the wheel of the trap passed over Mrs ICeyte's chest, but fortunately the child escaped injury. Mr Robert Laidlaw, of Laidlaw Leeds, was pausing in a motor car and hastily pulled up and after conveying Mrs Keyte to Mr Burton's store motored for Mr Keyte and thfn fr Dr McDonald, of Otahuhu, who ordered the removal of the patient to the hospital. Mr S. Craig and Mr Gladstone Le Pettit and others on the road caught the horse. Mr and Mrs Keyte have only recently taken up their residance in this district.

We are pleased to record the fact that the energetic secretary of the Manurewa Musical Society, Mr Thos Bell, is sufficiently recovered from a serious surgical operation to be removed from the hospital to his home where we trust he will have a speedy recovery. Miss Ethel Eae, an enthusiastic worker in patriotic movements in Auckland and a talented artist, has been secured to take the part of plaintiff in the re-productions of the musical play "Trial by Jury." Performances are being arranged to be given in Papakura Valley, Clevedon, Papakura, Drury and probably in Mangere, Otahuhu and Papatoetoe. Miss Rae's appearance will be the only alteration in the caste that recently produced the play at Manurewa. Miss Eae has taken part in several of Messrs Williamson and Musgrove's performances. Her services will be given gratituously, and the proceeds from the concerts will be devoted to the Soldiers' Children's Hospital Fund, Auckland.
